Dear Interested Parties,
On April 28, 2026, the Legislative Regulation Review Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly declined to approve the drafts of the Connecticut State Building, Fire Safety, and Fire Prevention Codes due to the committee’s concerns with the adoption of the model International Fire Code provisions for fire service vehicle access roadways.
The new codes were expected to take effect on July 1, 2026, but at this time, we anticipate the effective date may be delayed. The State Building Inspector and State Fire Marshal will review the status with the State Codes and Standards Committee and follow up with more information in due course.
The immediate impacts likely mean a delay in new code implementation. At this time, code modification requests to use future provisions or standards might not be able to be approved, pending the decision on next steps.
